Since I grew up attending a local Catholic school, our decision to transfer Liam from a Catholic school to Lyon in 2nd grade felt like a leap into the unknown. What I didn’t expect was the overwhelming sense of welcome we received—from the principals, teachers, and especially the PTA.

I’ll never forget walking into my first PTA meeting with a 2-month-old in tow, fully prepared to smile politely, avoid eye contact, and say “no” to any big asks. But instead of pressure or judgment, I found connection—connection to the school’s leadership and their vision, to opportunities to get involved (even if just for an hour), and to new faces who have since become some of my closest friends.

 

This year, I’m excited to give back by serving the teachers, staff, and parents of Lyon and Pleasant Ridge. My goal is to help more families feel that same sense of connection I once did—through everything the PTA does—by focusing on three main objectives:

 

• Connection to the School – Create a range of ways for all parents to get involved, no matter their availability or comfort level.

• Connection to Each Other – Build community through fun and inclusive social and cultural events (Let’s bring the 90‘s back!).

• Connection to Growth – Show our gratitude and support for teachers and staff through grants and appreciation initiatives all year long.
